A tracking system can
undoubtedly increase the effectiveness of any fleet, by ensuring efficient
allocation of resources more easily, i.e. routing vehicles most efficiently.
Simple Non-'Real Time' tracking capabilities are incorporated into the Garmin StreetPilot III
Deluxe. The system has approximately a 6 hour tracklog, storing
precise data on where it has been / when it was there / how fast it was
travelling etc... during it's last 6 hours (approx) of use. This data can be
uploaded to a PC with the cable supplied, and viewed in the map window of
the Mapsource software (also supplied with every system) to compare the
performance of work methods/vehicles/drivers. View

More sophisticated systems enable a fleet manager to view the current
location, speed, etc, of every vehicle within a fleet, in real time. A
discreet locator can be fitted to each vehicle which transmits data over a
network to a centralised base, before then being relayed to the end user’s
